Kiev, Moscow, Breda and now Ponsonby. Fourth in the world and first in New Zealand, the old Ponsonby Post Office is now home to The Ponsonby Belgian Beer Café. The postage stamps and mail boxes have been replaced with a full range of Belgian beers on tap and tasty Belgian cuisine. A great selection of Lambic beers (fruit beers), Trappist beers and the beer known as a real treasure of Belgium, Kwak, The Ponsonby Post Office built in 1912, with its ornate exterior and majestic stance against the city skyline, has been complimented with a 1930’s French Cosmopolitan style making it a cheerful, light, stylish place to be. With an authentic menu to compliment the dining environment, it provides
a social experience that incorporates Belgian pub cuisine with the Belgian
chef’s own creative flair. A large bowl of mussels stuffed with
salmon and dill is one of the Chef’s signature dishes. Other dishes
to select from include Flemish stew, braised Rabbit legs, flounder or
a metre-long Belgian style sausage! There is also a large selection of
salads, not forgetting the pots and platters of mussels. 1/3 St Marys Road, Ponsonby, Auckland
